Chatkazz

Our world is full of different cultures and traditions, and with all those different cultures comes different sorts of food. So to those people who fit into the category of “trying new foods”, I introduce to you a very well known Indian restaurant Chatkazz.

Chatkazz is a pure vegetarian restaurant which provides all Indian snacks/street food. For some of you that may not be aware, India within itself has many other cuisines that have developed from different regions, such as north Indian food usually consists of spicy food whereas south Indian food is creamier and mild. Although, Chatkazz is able to provide all Indian cuisines which is what makes it even more special, there’s just so much to choose from!!

This brings me to my next point, choosing dishes. For those who have never tried Indian food, it can be quite daunting to choose a meal that you think you’d like based on the very little description that is usually offered. So, here are some of my favourite foods that I would usually order or foods that I think are worth a try, to save your time.

Samosa Chaat– Samosa, a north Indian snack, is a fried pastry made of all purpose flour, traditionally filled with potatoes and green peas along with some spices. What really sets this snack apart is Its triangular shape as this way the pastry folds better and is able to hold and contain the mixture inside. This snack is best served with some chutney, alongside a chickpea curry and yogurt.

Masala Dosa: This south Indian dish is my absolute favourite and is usually my go to when I can’t decide on anything. The best way I  describe this would a savoury crepe (made from rice batter and black lentils), filled with potatoes and served with a mix vegetable curry and usually two chutneys (coconut and chilli). The “masala” refers to the stuffing inside of the crepe and the Dosa being the actual crepe. As with any usual crepe, this also comes in many varieties and stuffing options.   Anything from Indian cottage cheese (paneer) to onions and even plain.

Biryani: Biryani is a very well known India dish made all over India. Although It may just look like fried rice, biryani actually is cooked in a very special way that allows all of the flavours from the spices to remain fresh. As Chatkazz is a pure vegetarian restaurant it only offers veg and paneer biryani, although chicken and mutton (goat) biryani is also very common. This is best served with some salad and plain yogurt

Manchow Soup: This is my favourite soup hands down. This is a rather spicy soup, with vegetables and Chatkazz serves this with fresh coriander and some fried noodles. I love this as an entrée on cold nights, it instantly warms me up without filling me up too much so I am also able to enjoy my main course.

Daal fry with butter naan: This is a meal that I usually have together. As many may be aware naan is a soft bread which can be served with any Daal (lentils) or sabzi (vegetable curry) of your choice, and I usually have It with Daal. This is a very simple and traditional meal that is extremely filling and even more delicious. The soft texture of the butter naan works so well with the soupy consistency of the lentils.

So here are my few favourites from Chatkazz. Hopefully I was able to provide some knowledge about food today! Indian cuisine is so divine full of rich spicy flavours, and Chatkazz does an outstanding job of displaying these flavours. I highly highly recommend this Restaurant, for both it’s variety in food and the extremely fast, efficient and friendly service.

Pizza Pockets

We all love pizza. Wether you spend time with your family creating your favourite pizza with your own choice of toppings or simply order a takeaway on lazy nights, we are all, in some form, pizza addicts. Although what some may not know is pizza comes in various shapes and sizes. So, for all of those clueless people who are missing out and those who would like to try this cheesy goodness at home, here’s a recipe for pizza pockets!

1.     Create your own usual pizza base or purchase one
2.     Roll dough into your own choice of thickness and cut into squares, at least 4-5 inches’ wide
3.     Spread some pizza sauce on each square
4.     Fill the squares with your favourite cheeses and add your favourite toppings (pepperoni, pineapple, ham, chicken, capsicum) THE LIST GOES ON!
5.     Fold the squares neatly and ensure no filling is able to come out
6.     Place in it in the over on 220 degrees Celsius for about 10 minutes
7.     Serve with ketchup!

Pizza pockets are a small pastry filled with cheese, alongside any ingredients you choose to put in. Although very simple to make, this mouth watering savoury snack will leave your friend and family in awe and very pleased. This snack is remarkably delicious and is perfect for nights where you just want to try something a bit new or innovative. It is an exciting snack, and will easily become your children’s favourite.

What I love most about this dish is that it can be so personalised. You can add absolutely anything you wish. So, enjoy this utterly mouth watering snack with your friends and family!!

~ Sweet Potato Chips ~

Hi all, it's Megan here to kick off our blog with a delicious snack.

I'm sure there's lots of you out there that can empathise with me when i get those little guilty cravings for hot chips. I can be a real sucker for them; despite knowing they really aren't the healthiest. So of course I got excited when, eating out one night, I decided to experiment with some sweet potato chips. Whilst unconvinced at first, once you have a couple amazing, tasty, crispy, salty chips- AND discover they were actually much healthier than an ordinary potato I was ecstatic; even more so when later on I realised just how easy they are to make at home. So now I have found a new favourite snack to make at home that not only taste sensational, but I don't have to feel so guilty about it since sweet potatoes are much healthier and tastier too. Not to mention they are oven baked so they aren't drowned in oil. It’s easy enough to make in 4 simple steps!

1. Cut up your sweet potatoes however you want- thin, chunky, small chips or big wedges.
2. Lightly coat the potato with some oil, salt and pepper and any other spices you want- I like to add some mixed herbs to give that extra flavour.
3. Spread out onto a baking tray and put in the oven to cook, turning them over halfway through.
Disclaimer! Now you need to understand that I am still an amateur at these so I haven't perfected the right timing or temperature, so you should experiment as well. It all depends heavily on how big you've made them, how crispy you like them and how desperate you are to quickly eat them. I've found 40 minutes at around 200 degrees works well.
4. Enjoy your delicious healthy, oven-baked Sweet potato chips. My personal favourite is dipping them into my special homemade sweet chilli mayo sauce- which seem to complement each other perfectly.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I have, it’s made me hungry just thinking about it… Time to turn the oven on.
